The Reviews of our Guests
Warm, Wonderful, Welcoming
It’s difficult not to fall in love with Lucca even before venturing to Sorrento. Lucca responds to all emails, allays any concerns and is a marvelous host. Relais la Rupe is a 500 year old villa located atop an ancient iconic flour mill very close to the Piazza Tasso. It’s an absolutely lovely hotel/inn/villa with just 5 bedrooms, hosted by charming, handsome, gracious Lucca, his trusty rescue dog Pluto and his warm and wonderful dad. This property was once the family home, now converted to a guest house. The rooms are immaculate and comfortable, but not luxurious. The breakfast is simple fare with assorted cold cuts, cereals, yogurt, fruit, Italian coffee and tea. The location is amazing, the grounds lovely with an in-ground pool. Lucia’s English is great which was helpful as he gave us suggestions and directions. We are delighted with our choice and would highly recommend it. Stay here. You won’t regret it.
It’s all about Lucca!
We stayed there for one week. We arrived by night and were warmly welcomed by Lucca and it’s dog Pluto. As the place is not so easy to find, Lucca went on the street to guide us. The house is a kind of old palace with lot of charm. It’s very well located in the center of Sorrento. You will reach the old town and all the little streets within less than 5 minutes. The room was not huge but large enough, very clean and furbished with classic furniture. There is a little fridge which is really useful. In front of the house there is a large Italian garden and a little swimming pool overlooking the town. The only minus is the fact that the house is in the center, so you may hear some noise while sleeping (but we have never closed the window at night, so this could probably help). Should Lucca would not be the owner, it would be a good guest house, but with him it’s an exceptional guest house. Lucca is very friendly and he wants your stay to be a success. He is helping to find good places to eat and good things to do. He will care about your comfort during all your presence in his house. His father is also a very nice guy. We highly recommend this place.
Perfect haven for exploring Sorrento!
Luca and Pluto make one feel completely at home from the moment one enters the gates. The B&B is in the first two floors of a restored Palazzo and each room is coloured and themed with beautiful art pieces and historical furnishings. Our ‘red’ room was roomy and very comfortable with high ceilings, a couch, desk as well a king size bed. One can also relax by the pool and the garden has excellent views of Sorrento as well as the breathtaking drop to ruins of ancient mills where boats used to dock. The are currently four rooms which will increase to six so Luca has the time to help one in any way he can. His restaurant and site seeing suggestions were spot on. The main town is only a stroll away so it is in a perfect location. The is also parking available. I highly recommend Relais la Rupa!
Memorable Stay
Relais La Rupe is a lovely B&B, ideally perched above The hustle and bustle of Sorrento, only a minutes walk from Piazza Tasso. Luca, the host welcomed us with genuine warmth and showed us around this beautiful villa, before we checked into our room. We stayed in the ‘blue room’ which is charmingly rustic. Breakfast at Relais La Rupe is a relaxing affair, Luca throws the patio doors open so that the morning sunshine and birds can enhance the experience. Every morning Luca goes to the local bakery to buy fresh pastries, the Nutella croissants were to die for! As well as pastries, fresh seasonal fruit, salami, cheese yoghurt, cereal and fresh Italian coffee are all available. The garden area is peaceful and relaxing, there is a small pool, and many seating areas where you can enjoy a bottle of wine. What stands out at Relais La Rupe is the hospitality that you receive from Luca and his adorable dog Pluto. Luca is knowledgable, caring and attentive. His attention to detail is second to none. Luca gave us many recommendations about the local area which we followed up on, and are glad that we did! Relais La Rupe is ideal if you want restful, private accommodation with an authentic feel. We felt more like we were staying with a friend that at a hotel, and feel that after our stay, we made a lifelong friend in our gracious host.
Italian Oasis of Calm
We stayed here for a week with our two teenage daughters. The welcome we received was second to none and we felt at home immediately.Luca is a lovely host who goes out of his way to help-printing bus timetables/advising on restaurants/booking a boat trip to Capri (expensive but a “must do”)-nothing is too much trouble. The location could not be better-like stepping in to a secret garden away from the bustle of Sorrento. Pluto the dog is very sweet and always welcomed us on our return. We miss Luca and Pluto.
Pluto is very photogenic
Lovely villa steeped in family history, Luca is an excellent host and was extremely helpful. He drove our car around town offering advice on restaurants, best ice cream emporia… and then showed us the private parking. The Decorations, Furnishings in the Villa were beautiful.
Unique Place, Unique Owner and a Unique Dog – A Very Special Place!
We stayed here relaxing for a few days after a sightseeing holiday in Rome and we couldn’t have chosen a better place. Relais La Rupe is simply one of the best places we’ve ever stayed in anywhere. It’s in the most fantastic place in Sorrento less than 2 minutes walk from the old town and yet it’s an oasis of calm and class! It’s perched on a massive rock towering over the main square and it’s idyllic. The welcome from Luca the owner on our arrival was without doubt the warmest and most genuine welcome you could ever hope to find – and then it gets better when you get to meet Luca’s dog Pluto – he’s the jewel in La Rupe’s crown! The hotel is wonderfully appointed with gardens, patios, and a beautiful pool area. The place only caters for up to 8 guests max at a time and so that, combined with Luca’s fantastic service and the welcome you get from his Dad and the rest of his family, really do make it homely and relaxing. Our room was clean, spacious and well appointed. It’s decor is very much in keeping with the grand Italian villa that it is and we loved it. The bed was fabulous – so much so we tried to find out who made it so we could buy one ourselves!!! The bathroom was also good – the only niggle was water pressure in the shower was a little weak but given its a grand old lady of a building and given how stunning it is to stay there it’s a niggle that didn’t actually make any difference. Breakfast is plentiful and good and Luca’s tips for great restaurants and ice cream are well worth following up. This was our first visit to Sorrento and we fell in love with it – and a large part of that is that we fell in love with Luca’s wonderful La Rupe, his idea of hospitality which is really special and above all we loved a fabulous dog called Pluto. We really couldn’t recommend this highly enough – if you get a chance to stay there we’d urge you to seize the opportunity because Relais La Rupe is wonderful!
Charming relais with excellent host and super location
Excellent location within east walking distance of main square and old town. Superb host, very helpful and informative. Good breakfast. Historic building well adapted for relais use and felt more like a much higher rated. hotel.
Nothing. Highly recommended for any traveller. We stayed there for 5 days in autumn but would love to stay in the summer and sample the gardens and swimming pool.
Charming relais with excellent host and super location
Amazing
Location was excellent, host Luca and his family were outstanding with information of Sorrento and also history of Villa and being fantastic people
Relais La Rupe. Amazing stay!
We were there for 4 days at this wonderful family run establishment. it was wonderful in every way imaginable. The room was very comfortable with a lot of character, the setting was beautiful,…you walked out into the garden of a beautiful villa. it was impecablly clean, in the heart of town. But what was the most wonderful part of the stay were the owners Luca and his dad… no matter what i say im unable to do justice or say enough. The warmth and care was something that cant be quantified. Its what made Sorrento special… Luca keep on shining!!
The perfect setting!
Luca could not have been more helpful in terms of providing information on the area and how best to get about. He was also very kind towards friends and family who also stayed at Relais La Rupe and those who visited us. We cannot thank him enough for making a very special time so wonderful! We would love to return to Relais La Rupe.
Possibly the best hotel stay I have ever had
Luca is an excellent host. He gives great advice and goes out of his way to make sure you get everything you want. Luca’s dad and Pluto the dog are great too and add a real family feel to the place. The location is fantastic – right by the centre of town but feels like it is a million miles away from the hustle and bustle. The decor is fantastic and really fits the grandure of the building. The service was top notch and we wanted for nothing. My new wife and I could not have wished for a better place to spend our honeymoon – thanks Luca.
That I can’t take Luca and his dad with me to every place I stay in from now on!!
Luca, a perfect host.
We were made to feel very welcome by Luca, he was a perfect host. Luca was very helpful, providing us with lots of information, timetables etc Location is stunning ,very central, but with private garden and pool. The house is beautiful and the rooms very comfortable. Breakfast was lovely
A lovely peaceful retreat in a perfect, central location. Highly recommended
We loved everything about Relais La Rupe. The wonderful welcome from Luca and the friendly family dog, Pluto. The delicious fresh pastries served with breakfast. The lovely gardens where you could relax after a day sightseeing. Luca is the perfect host. He gave us excellent advice and help with choosing restaurants and booking excursions. Luca and his family are genuinely warm and welcoming. We felt very at home in their elegant and charming hotel.
WOW!!
Please let us relate our RAVE REVIEW of Relais La Rupe with a tale of two travelers. Traveler One: “I rented one of the thousands of hotel rooms in Sorrento. The room was nice, but, you know, a hotel is a hotel, and you get what you pay for. Sorrento was great, too.” Traveler Two (My wife, my brother, and I at Relais La Rupe): “You are not going to believe the awesome experience we had in Sorrento!! We met this fantastic man named Luca and his wonder dog, Pluto, and they invited us to stay at their 400 year old villa right in the middle of Sorrento (a two minute walk to the main square.) The villa sits atop the most breath-takingly beautiful gorge in Sorrento, and both before and after touring each day, we spent time relaxing, sipping a beverage, and enjoying the views from the huge terrace and gardens overlooking the city. We felt like the king had invited us to stay in his castle! Luca treated us like old friends who had come to visit, taking care of our every need, and pointing us toward the best restaurants and local attractions. Do yourself a great favor— live graciously in Sorrento for a few days at Relais La Rupe instead of camping out at hotel. Ciao, Luca and Pluto. Grazie mille, and we hope to see you again soon!!
